A Long Bus Ride
Today, we spent most of the day on the bus. Though that might sound boring, bus rides became some of the most enjoyable parts of the trip. During the bus ride, we got to play a fun trivia game about what we had learned during the trip so far. Taylor and I got really into it, and had a blast. Our guide was great at getting everybody engaged and having fun, even when it was during a long bus trip. When we finally arrived, I thought I had gone to Heaven. Everything was so beautiful everywhere you looked. Whether it was the towering mountains, or the streams flowing through the valley, everything looked like it had come out of a fairy tale.
Tips from a Teen: Bus Rides
Bus rides may seem long and boring, but they can be the most relaxing and helpful part of your journey. Here are some of the things you can do to help the ride go by a little quicker:
- Catch up on your journal entries. Some nights you may be too tired to write in your travel journal. Bus rides are the perfect time to reflect and write about everything that you have experienced so far on your journey.
- Sleep! After many long nights in the city, the bus can turn into a perfect place to catch up on missed sleep. Cover yourself up with a jacket and put on a sleep mask to fall asleep quicker and stay asleep for longer.
- Talk to your friends. Although you spend a lot of time with your group during days in the city, you may be too engrossed in the tour to get to know all of your peers.
- Learn about your next stop. Talk to your tour guide about the city or country you are traveling to. Chances are, they will have some good tips for getting around the new city. Also, pay attention to the language and culture lessons that are usually given during the bus rides to learn more about your next destination.
- Participate in the games. The tour guides might have some fun games planned for the bus trips, so get involved and have fun!
A Quick Train Ride and some Cheese Fondue
Finally, we arrived in Switzerland. We took a train up to the village we were staying in and put our bags in the hotel room. Then, the group got together for a dinner of cheese fondue. All of it was delicious, but the best part was the burnt cheese at the bottom of the pan. If you are lucky enough to scrape some of it up onto a piece of bread, you are in for a real treat. It tasted absolutely delicious, and it was some of the best cheese I had ever had in my life.
